Lawyers representing former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort claim special counsel Robert Mueller has not proven that their client purposely lied to Mueller's investigators.

The Hill cited a Wednesday court filing in which the lawyers argued Manafort did not lie.

"Indeed, many of these events occurred years ago, or during a high-pressure U.S. presidential campaign he managed when his time was extraordinarily limited, or during the difficult time that followed his departure from the 2016 presidential campaign because of the allegations leveled at him and the investigations that followed," the filing reads.

Last week, Mueller filed a redacted document that partially outlined the case against Manafort, who is accused of lying to investigators. He was found guilty of tax and bank fraud last summer, and in September he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud the United States and witness tampering.

Manafort's lawyers said Mueller's evidence is misleading and does not prove their client is guilty of anything.
