The father of one of the student victims of the Valentine's Day massacre at a Florida high school slapped a wrongful death lawsuit against eight people and entities, including the 'pusillanimous' sheriff's deputy who remained outside during the slaughter, the Miami Herald reported.

Andrew Pollack, whose daughter, Meadow, was one of 17 killed at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, told the Herald his "main target" is Scot Peterson, the erstwhile school's resource officer who was on campus and the first to respond but did nothing to accost the shooter and end the slaughter.

"He let my daughter get shot nine times at point-blank range," Andrew Pollack told the Herald. "He had the opportunity to go in and instead, let all those people get murdered."

The other defendants named in Pollack's lawsuit:

  • Confessed murderer Nikolas Cruz and the estate of his late mother, Lynda Cruz.
  • James and Kimberly Snead, the people in whose home Cruz had been living.
  • Henderson Behavioral Health Inc.
  • Jerome Golden Center for Behavioral Health Inc.
  • South County Mental Health Center Inc.

The 26-page lawsuit skewers Peterson, who retired instead of facing disciplinary action, saying the "pusillanimous" Peterson "cowered in a safe location between two concrete walls" as it "rained bullets upon the teachers and students."

Peterson "could have stopped it. Could have saved my kid," Pollack told the Herald. "Nobody should be able to not do their job, receive a pension and ride off into the sunset."
