President Donald Trump sent a letter to the family of Meadow Pollack, one of the 17 people killed in last month's shooting at Parkland's Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

The letter, dated March 12 and signed by the president, was shared Monday on Twitter by Pollack's brother, Hunter, who included this response.

"Our entire Nation mourns the tragic loss of Meadow," the letter from the president said. "Our hearts are heavy for you and your entire family. I am deeply grateful for your presence at the White House for discussions regarding school safety.

"I was touched by the memories of Meadow you shared. It was clear that she had a bright future, full of tremendous potential — I know that you were so proud of her."

The letter continued, promising that "we will not forget her life, and we are resolved to confront the evil that so senselessly took her from us. Melania and I hold you close in our hearts, and we pray for your comfort and strength."

Pollack's family participated in a listening session at the White House on school safety a week after the shooting, where her father, Andrew, made an impassioned plea, stating "how many schools, how many children have to get shot? It stops here with this administration and me. I'm not going to sleep until it is fixed. And Mr. President, we'll fix it. Because I'm going to fix it. I'm not going to rest," CNN reported.

In the aftermath of the massacre, there has been a renewed debate over stricter gun control legislation, led by Parkland students, including the "March For Our Lives," demonstrations in which more than one million people participated nationwide on Saturday, The Hill reported.

Although the Trump administration has taken steps to ban bump stocks and signed off on funding for improved background checks, Congress has not taken action on enacting universal background checks, raising the age requirement to purchase a rifle or banning assault weapons, three key demands of the protesters.
