Alaska Poised to Release Palin Emails

Wednesday, 01 June 2011 01:22 PM EDT

JUNEAU, Alaska — The state of Alaska is poised to release 24,199 pages of emails sent and received by Sarah Palin while she was governor.

It's withholding or redacting some of the emails for reasons including attorney-client, work product or executive privilege.

The emails cover the first 21 months of Palin's tenure, ending in September 2008. That's when news organizations and citizens first requested her emails, in the throes of her failed vice presidential bid.

A public records official has said emails for the rest of her term were requested subsequently and likely would be part of another batch. Palin resigned in July 2009.

The state faced a Tuesday deadline for releasing the emails and completed its review by then. It's working with requestors on the logistics of copying and shipping.
