Former White House staffer Omarosa Manigault Newman, who secretly recorded conversations with President Donald Trump and others within the White House, lacks any sort of integrity to be taken seriously, press secretary Sarah Sanders said.
During Tuesday's White House press briefing, Sanders faced an onslaught of questions regarding Omarosa, a former reality TV contestant who is peddling a book about her time working in the Trump White House. Among her claims are Trump was declining mentally and he has used the N-word.
Trump has pushed back hard on the claims.
"I think the president is certainly voicing his frustration with the fact that this person has shown a complete lack of integrity, particularly by the actions following her time here at the White House," Sanders said.
Trump worked with Omarosa on multiple seasons of "The Apprentice" and has historically had nice things to say about her. She worked on his campaign and was later hired to work on the White House communications staff.
Trump called her a "dog" in a Tuesday morning tweet, however.
"Not only those of us here in the White House, but frankly most of America would be happy to ignore it," Sanders said of the media attention given to Omarosa. "Unfortunately, the individuals in this room continue to create a large platform for somebody they know not to have a lot of credibility, for someone that they refuse to give a platform to when they worked here at the White House.
"It wasn't until this individual started to negatively attack this president and this administration and try to tear this entire place down that she received the type of platform and rollout that she's getting. I think it would be great if every person in this room and every person in the administration never had to talk about this again."
Sanders added later, "The greatest concern is the lack of integrity this individual has shown."
According to Politico, White House chief of staff John Kelly fired Omarosa last December for using the White House car service to get rides to and from work — a practice that was against federal government rules.
On a recording Omarosa released of her dismissal, Kelly referenced Omarosa's use of government vehicles and said she had displayed "significant integrity issues."
Omarosa has since written a book about her relationship with Trump that dates back to "The Apprentice" and spans through her time working in the White House. Some people mentioned in the book, however, have already come forward to say what she wrote about them were lies.
