Amid Hollywood director Oliver Stone's recent public defenses of Russian President Vladimir Putin, The Washington Free Beacon revealed the director's son is a host on RT America, which funded by the Russian government and is considered a Kremlin propaganda channel.
Sean Stone was hired in 2015 to replace an RT host which protested Russia's Crimea invasion, according to the report.
The younger Stone "has a history of defending anti-American authoritarian leaders," per the Free Beacon, including former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, whom Sean Stone called "misunderstood." Also, Sean Stone "converted to Shia Islam during a trip to Iran" and once told former Fox News host Bill O'Reilly he was "OK with Iran having a nuclear weapon," per the report.
Oliver Stone, too, has caught flak for being a Putin apologist, amid his upcoming Showtime series "The Putin Interviews," and he defends Putin's lack of interest in granting interviews to Western media.
"There's a tendency to package him, pre-criticize him," Oliver Stone told CNN's "Reliable Sources" on Sunday. "I think he's lost a little bit of spirit. I think he really wants to communicate. I think you see it in the film.
"He repeats the need for dialogue to overcome these problems. And they're significant problems."
Oliver Stone was asked by CNN's host Brian Stelter if he felt the need to confront Putin about the allegations of Russian interference in the U.S. elections.
"I can't change his mind; I can show his mind," Oliver Stone told Stelter. "I can show the American people, allow them to hear it. Even if it's a denial, and they don't want to hear that, they should, because he speaks in a certain way."
During the 2016 election, then candidate Trump did an interview on the "Larry King Now" show on the RT network.
