Police officer Mark Dallas, who wounded and arrested a gunman at Dixon High School in Illinois, received a standing ovation, along with the school's seniors at the graduation ceremonies, SaukValley.com is reporting.

Dallas, who works as the resource officer at the high school in Dixon, Illinois, received the ovation on Sunday as he led students into their graduation program.

On Wednesday, he had wounded a student who fired a gun at him at the school. The shooting started in the school's gymnasium, where students had been gathered for graduation rehearsal

SaulkValley.com identified the suspect at Matthew Milby Jr., 19.

Dallas' son, Josh, had been one of the graduates forced to flee during the gunfire. The teenager was proud to point out his father's heroism, SaukValley.com reported.

"He took the whole school under his wing," Josh said. "He's everyone's father, savior and protector."

Mark Dallas was also given a poster signed by all 182 graduates thanking him.
