Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., clashed with the chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee in a private meeting where concerns were raised about the direction of the party’s campaign arm, Politico is reporting.

The meeting, held Monday night, was used by NRCC Chairman Tom Emmer, R-Minn. to press for party dues and contributions to the party committee.

Politico, citing multiple sources, said Emmer questioned whether Cheney would continue to contribute campaign cash to the NRCC.

But Cheney, who is the House Republican Conference chair, fired back at him, saying she has paid her party dues and met her fundraising benchmarks, according to Politico. She also maintained some GOP lawmakers are concerned about the NRCC’s strategy for 2020.

The website described the meeting as “tense.”

Meanwhile, The Hill noted speculation continues over whether Cheney will make a bid for the Senate.

“If she's eyeing a Senate run, she would have to step down from her leadership spot and would no longer be paying any dues,” a source said. “So I'm not sure it's smart for her to take a bath up front for something that she may not fulfill out.”
