Republicans are increasingly characterizing the race in North Dakota as their best opportunity in the nation to pick up a Democrat-held Senate seat.
According to a Gray Television/Strategic Research Poll released on Monday, Republican Rep. Kevin Cramer holds a lead of 56 percent to 40 percent over Democratic Sen. Heidi Heitkamp—the biggest lead yet that the congressman has held in any poll of the Senate contest. Four percent were undecided in the poll and the margin of error was +/-3.8 percent.
Last month, a Fox News poll of likely Roughrider State voters showed Cramer leading Heitkamp by 53 to 41 percent.
The latest poll came out just as the Fargo Forum, the largest newspaper in North Dakota, endorsed Cramer over Heitkamp.
Virtually all sources who talked to Newsmax agreed that Heitkamp’s decision to finally vote against the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court was key to Cramer’s lead.
“The Kavanaugh vote and the no vote on the tax cuts show that she is out of touch with the state,” former Republican National Committeewoman Connie Nicholas told Newsmax. “Also, Kevin is known as one of the most accessible members in Congress in the country while Heidi does not make herself available to much of the North Dakota press corps nor to many constituents who oppose her position on important issues.”
