Former Vice President Joe Biden holds a strong lead in the latest poll of Democratic candidates in North Carolina, according to the latest poll from High Point University.
The school surveyed 348 Democrats in the state, and found Biden holds a commanding lead over Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass.
- Biden: 31%.
- Sanders: 20%.
- Warren: 15%.
No other candidate broke double-digits, including Sens. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., and Cory Booker, D-N.J., and entrepreneur Andrew Yang, who were the only candidates to register more than 3% support.
Biden also had the highest level of favorability, with 70% compared to Sanders' 61% and Warren's 53%.
"Even though we are still early in the presidential campaign, there are signs of increasing interest among self-identified Democratic voters," Dr. Martin Kifer, director of the HPU Poll and the chair of the school's political science department, said in a statement. "As the race heats up, we should expect to see some changes in relative support for candidates. The candidates and their positions are becoming better known to voters."
High Point University surveyed 1,030 adults in North Carolina, 348 of whom self-identified as Democrats, between Sept. 13-19, and has a margin of error of +/-6.4 percentage points.
