North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho on Wednesday said President Donald Trump "lit the wick of war" with his speech at the United Nations.
In a meeting with the Russian news agency TASS, Yong Ho said that North Korea will make the U.S. pay with a hail of fire, and that the country's nuclear program guarantees peace and safety in the region.
During his speech to the U.N. in September, Trump derided North Korean leader Kim Jung Un as "rocket man" while saying he might not be left with any choice but to "totally destroy North Korea."
Yong Ho went on to say that North Korea has almost achieved a balance of power with the U.S.
He also said that North Korea's nuclear program will never be a matter of discussion while the U.S. remains intent on crushing North Korea.
Russia and North Korea on Thursday will mark the 69th anniversary since establishing diplomatic ties.
