New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is even less favorable among blue state New Yorkers than President Donald Trump in the latest Siena College poll, according to The Washington Free Beacon.
Mayor de Blasio pulls a mere 29% favorability rating in the Siena Poll, which is trumped by the president's 34%.
The numbers give de Blasio's fledgling presidential campaign a hit in a crowded field of 24 Democrats, most of which have far larger national political cachets – not to mention respect in their own locales.
While President Trump's favorability is higher, mostly due to favorability among New York state Republicans (70%), both the president and the NYC mayor are under water in unfavorability. De Blasio is viewed unfavorably by 53%, while President Trump is unfavorable for 63% of New Yorkers, according to the poll.
As much as New York wants a new president, it still does not want it to be de Blasio.
"Blue New York shows no interest in supporting the incumbent Republican President for re-election," Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg said. "Currently, only 29 percent of voters say they are prepared to re-elect Trump, while 68 percent say they prefer ‘someone else.’
Perhaps most notably as de Blasio tries to make some noise in the crowded Democratic presidential primary field, 17% of respondents did not have an opinion on de Blasio. Just 3% did not have an opinion on President Trump in the poll.
De Blasio poll results by party:
- Democrats – 39% favorable, 45% unfavorable
- Republicans – 13%, 70%
- Independents – 24%, 58%
President Trump poll results by party:
- Democrats – 19%, 77%
- Republicans – 70%, 29%
- Independents – 32%, 65%
The Siena Poll was conducted June 2-6 among 812 New York State registered voters with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.1 percentage points.
