New Hampshire Republican strategists expressed concern that turnout for Tuesday's primary could be depressed given the lack of energy that results from a depleted field, The Hill reported.
New Hampshire GOP chair Chris Ager said Tuesday he was expecting 300,000 Republican voters to turn out even as Secretary of State David Scanlan predicted a record turnout of 322,000, which would topple the 287,000 voters who turned out in 2016. Scanlan's prediction would also beat the numbers of the 2020 Democrat primary in the state.
"We have had some candidates on the Republican side drop out of the race. And that has narrowed the field quite a bit," Scanlan said during a MSNBC interview. "That certainly will impact the turnout. I'm just not quite sure how yet. I still expect a healthy turnout on the Republican side."
But Ager was concerned that turnout could be affected after Sunday's exit of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, the latest to suspend his campaign.
