President Donald Trump equated the cost of running a campaign for U.S. president to the cost of a yacht, Newt Gingrich told The Washington Post.
"'Seventy or $80 million, that'll be a yacht,'" Gingrich recalled Trump telling him in 2012. "'This would be a lot more fun than a yacht.' And I thought, 'He's going to go.'
"I didn't think at the moment he was going to win. I just thought, 'He's gonna go.'"
Newt Gingrich released his book "Understanding Trump," where he "shares what he learned from more than two years helping Trump and his team throughout the campaign, the election, and during the first months of the presidency," according to the book's Amazon synopsis.
Gingrich added he did not truly see "Trump breaking loose until the Fox debate in August."
