White House Director of Trade and Manufacturing Policy Director Peter Navarro had one word Tuesday to describe his thoughts on the chances the United States will reach a trade deal with China: "Bullish."
"We got a bullish scenario in which we went back to the bargaining table," Navarro told Fox News' "America's Newsroom," while discussing last week's meeting between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. "(We were) already firmly engaged with the Chinese side."
He also said he agreed with National Economic Council Director Larry Kudlow, who last week shot down reports from The Wall Street Journal that there were preconditions that were met before the meeting.
"That is absolutely right. There are no preconditions," he said."That was a very interesting meeting."
Meanwhile, the "handshake seen around the world" at the DMZ between Trump and North Korea Chairman Kim Jong Un and the G20 make a "strong case" that the United States has "not only the best president on economic policy but also foreign policy."
He also rejected critics who say Trump's handshake with Kim was merely a photo-op.
"If President Trump were not in office, we would see nuclear bombs detonating underneath North Korean soil, making bigger and bigger bombs," said Navarro. "We would see missiles flying over South Korea and Japan, going further and further towards American shores. We are not seeing any of that, what we have now, peace and prosperity on the peninsula...we can move slowly, but we are moving."
