National Christmas Tree to Be Lit Again Thanks to Grant

The National Christmas Tree, which was damaged last Friday and had its lights shut off over the weekend, will be lit again because of the National Park Foundation.

"The National Park Foundation has provided financial support to reopen, operate, and manage the National Christmas Tree site," the National Park Service said Monday, according to The Hill.

ABC affiliate reporter Richard Reeve wrote on Twitter on Monday: "NATIONAL TREE OPEN: NPS says a grant from the national Park foundation will allow them to operate and keep open the tree until January 1. You won't see any lights until later in the afternoon."

The Hill notes the tree's lights were damaged last Friday after a man attempted to climb it. The ongoing government shutdown complicated the repairs, according to the Park Service.
