President Donald Trump is not trying to goad Democrats into impeachment proceedings — he is only challenging them to "put up or shut up," Rudy Giuliani, the president's lawyer, told Newsmax TV on Tuesday.
In an interview on "The Howie Carr Show," Giuliani said "the president doesn't want to be impeached — nobody wants to be impeached."
"The president doesn't take to being attacked," he said. "He fights back. So what he's basically saying is, 'Put up or shut up.' Don't do all this nonsense . . . oversight hearings . . . subpoenas . . . specialized lawyers to ask questions.
"You do that with impeachment . . . You're afraid to say because the American people are against impeachment. You're afraid to say because how can you do impeachment when you just a a report saying — no case for collusion, no case for obstruction . . ."
He also dismissed Rep. Jerrold Nadler's, D-N.Y.., demand to see unredacted portions of special counsel Robert Mueller's report.
"The obstruction [portion] . . . there's 1% redacted," he said. "And about a quarter of that is footnotes . . . It's pending investigations that have no impact on this. So this idea that they're not getting the full report is absurd."
