Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. – aiming to energize Democrats and raise money for the party – vowed to fight back "with a vengeance" after a contentious public meeting with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office, The Hill reported.
In a fundraising email blast sent Thursday, Pelosi, who with Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., wrangled with Trump in a televised sitdown Tuesday, declared "never in my life have I backed down from a fight."
"Which is why, after President Trump just threatened to shut down the government over his immoral border wall, tried to blame a shutdown on our Democrats, and continues to mislead the American people, I'm fighting back with a vengeance — and personally triple-matching all Democratic Membership renewals until midnight to make sure we stop him and his Republicans' disastrous shutdown," said Pelosi, who is expected to be elected House Speaker in the next Congress,The Hill reported.
Pelosi said in her email she has received membership renewals from 62,748 Democrats so far, The Hill reported.
Pelosi and Schumer met with Trump to discuss government funding, but the meeting quickly devolved into a fight over Trump's promised border wall and his $5 billion demand to fund it. There is still no agreement over border wall funding or a larger government spending bill.
