House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler has asked special counsel Robert Mueller to appear before his committee as soon as possible following Attorney General William Barr's press conference explaining his report on President Donald Trump, his campaign, and Russia.
"It is clear Congress and the American people must hear from Special Counsel Robert Mueller in person to better understand his findings. We are now requesting Mueller to appear before @HouseJudiciary as soon as possible," the New York Democrat posted on his Twitter account minutes after Barr's press conference.
He also posted a copy of a letter he sent to Mueller asking that he appear before the committee no later than May 23.
Nadler also tweeted "we cannot take" Barr's word for Mueller's report, "we must read the full Mueller report, and the underlying evidence. This is about transparency and ensuring accountability."
His tweets follow complaints that Barr was using a press conference to summarize the report before it was to be released to members of Congress and that the White House would be briefed first.
"I’m deeply troubled by reports that the WH is being briefed on the Mueller report AHEAD of its release," Nadler tweeted Wednesday. "Now, DOJ is informing us we will not receive the report until around 11/12 tomorrow afternoon — AFTER Barr’s press conference. This is wrong. #ReleaseTheReport"
