Liberal-leaning MSNBC has topped mainstream CNN in full-year viewership for first time since 2012, according to the latest Nielsen TV ratings.
In primetime, MSNBC scored 1.62 million total viewers, an increase of 50 percent, while CNN had 1.06 million, down 15 percent in total viewers.
In addition, MNBC's nighttime block fronted by Rachel Maddow beat Anderson Cooper and his CNN show for the first time since 2013 in the key demographic of adults aged 25-54.
