Twitter has decided to unlock the account belonging to the campaign for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., after it was frozen for sharing a video of protesters yelling threats at his home.
The McConnell account was locked because of a post it shared of protesters yelling profane insults and threats at the senator’s home in Kentucky, which violates Twitter’s policy against tweets containing violent threats.
"After multiple appeals from affected users and Leader McConnell’s team confirming their intent to highlight the threats for public discussion, we have reviewed this case more closely," the Twitter communication team wrote in a series of tweets. "Going forward, the video will be visible on the service with a sensitive media interstitial and only in cases where the Tweet content does not otherwise violate the Twitter Rules."
The McConnell campaign later posted: "Victory!!! Thank you to EVERYONE for helping #FreeMitch."
