A Ukrainian official said his country first became aware the U.S.  had delayed military aid a month after the July 25 call between President Donald Trump and Ukraine’s leader Volodymyr Zelenskiy, The New York Times is reporting.

The newspaper did not identify the Ukrainian official.

But if the information is correct, it calls into question whether there was a quid pro quo for the aid, according to Fox News. Some Democrats claim Trump held out the aid to pressure Zelenskiy to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden.

Others say even if a deal wasn’t explicitly mentioned, the innuendo was there.

Now Republican lawmakers could seize on the apparent timeline conflict and claim that if a quid pro quo was in place, Ukrainian officials would know about it, Fox News said.

Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C. said the Trump-Zelenskiy call shows no quid pro quo was ever offered. And he noted Zelenskiy said he did not feel that he was being pressure during the call by Trump.
