House committee members have not been briefed directly on the situation with Saudi Arabia in connection with the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, and that has been "frustrating," Rep. Mike Turner said Thursday.
"Obviously the chairman has received briefings," Turner told MSBNC's "Morning Joe."
"We're certainly— we just met yesterday to have a discussion about our continuing demands to receive briefings on this matter. It has been frustrating. The important aspect is we maintain U.S. values."
On Thursday, senators sent a strong signal that they want to punish Saudi Arabia for its role in the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, voting by 63-37 to move forward with legislation calling for an end to U.S. involvement in the Saudi-led war in Yemen.
"I think that we have seen the Senate get additional information the House has not received," said Turner. "We don't know the reason for that is. Their's certainly great displeasure from the members and that has been made clear both to the CIA and administration."
Turner also spoke about about reports that the Department of Veterans Affairs won't be able to fufill requirements for the recipients of GI benefits.
"I can tell you, when Congress authorizes benefits, it is not a suggestion," said Turner. "We're going to be working to determine what this is. Bookkeeping errors don't result in changing congressional intent. We're certainly going to work to ensure the veterans receive the benefits."
NBC reported Wednesday that the VA told congressional staffers on Wednesday that it will not repay veterans who received smaller GI Bill benefit payments than they were owed, but the VA has pushed back against the story, reports The Hill.
