U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Monday warned Lebanese officials that Hezbollah and Iran have a covert missile production plant located in the country, Axios reports.
Israeli intelligence reportedly told Pompeo about the missile plants but Israel is reluctant to use military action. Israel, reportedly, has become increasingly concerned about, the plants. Pompeo received the intelligence from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu two weeks ago, and subsequently traveled to Beirut to meet with Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri.
“Pompeo raised before Prime Minister Hariri his concerns over Hezbollah’s actions in Lebanon. The actions of Hezbollah are a threat to Lebanon,” an unnamed senior US official told Israel’s Channel 13 news station, according to the Times of Israel.
“We made it clear to the government of Lebanon that…the danger of escalation with Israel as a result [of Hezbollah’s actions] is real,” the official added.
The State Department told Axios: "We do not disclose the contents of private diplomatic talks."
