Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will speak at an event hosted by the Iowa-based Family Leader Organization, an influential faith-based group, The Hill reports.
The group, which is headed by former gubernatorial candidate Bob Vander Plaats, announced Pompeo's appearance at "An Evening of International Impact," on Thursday. The event, which takes place March 21 in Des Moines, Iowa, will see Pompeo join Joel Rosenberg, a conservative commentator, author and Fox News columnist based in Israel.
Vander Plaats tweeted Thursday:
"Historic. Unprecedented. Timely. This will be a must attend event featuring [Pompeo] and [Rosenberg] ...promises to be most insightful evening!"
"As tensions mount in the Middle East, we wanted to set apart an evening to begin a conversation," Vander Plaats said in a statement, according to the Hill. "We have invited Rosenberg and Secretary Pompeo to sit down with us and discuss the current global situation, America's role, and the impact our faith has on these circumstances."
The Hill notes, the Family Leader Foundation is a favorite of potential conservative presidential candidates, and Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, previously made an appearance at one of their events before making a bid for the White House in 2016.
