Authorities appear to be closing in on their main suspect in the November 13 Paris terrorist attacks, House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mike McCaul of Texas said Sunday on CNN's
"State of the Union."
McCaul wouldn't say whether authorities believe Salah Abdeslam is still in Europe or has made his way to Syria.
"I don't want to compromise their investigation," he said. "I do think they're closing in on him."
Abdeslam is believed to have crossed into Belgium just hours after the attacks that killed 130 and injured more than 350.
The Paris plot shows a "new chapter" for the Islamic State (ISIS), McCaul said, being able to conduct multiple external operations, including the bombing of a Russian airliner, in recent weeks.
"We're very concerned about their capability against the united States as well," he said.
