Rep. Michael Waltz Monday called on Rep. Rashida Tlaib to clarify and apologize about the comments she made about having a "calming feeling" when she thinks about the Holocaust, and he said he thinks House Speaker Nancy Pelosi needs to call members of her party out on their views favoring a one-state solution for Israel and the Palestinians.
"This isn't about social justice on campus or Middle East, this is taking down our greatest ally in the Middle East, Israel," the Florida Republican told Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "That's what it underlying policies that Nancy Pelosi needs to call out and press her caucus on."
Waltz said he does think Tlaib, D-Mich., should clarify her comments, as she was trying to make a point about her Palestinian ancestors "very badly."
"If you look at the entire context of the interview, what she was trying - very badly - to say that she loved or was calming - wasn't necessarily the Holocaust, was that her ancestors provided the land for the safe haven for the Jews post-Holocaust," Waltz said.
He added that he does have a "strong disagreement" with Tlaib for seeming to create a "moral equivalence" between the Holocaust and the ongoing fighting between the Palestinians and Israel.
"It is completely unacceptable and she should apologize for it," said Waltz, because her comments have been perceived as being anti-Semitic.
However, there is a more broad agenda, because Tlaib supports the one-state solution for the Middle East and Israel, said Waltz.
