A top donor to President Donald Trump agreed to pay Michael Cohen $10 million if the former fixer to the president helped obtain funding for a nuclear-power project, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The funding for donor Franklin Haney would have included a $5 billion loan from the government to help complete two unfinished nuke reactors in Alabama, the Journal reports.
The Journal reports that Cohen, who was also given a monthly retainer by Haney, made a few calls to the Department of Energy to inquire about its loan program, including how to speed up the process.
The WSJ could not determine how much - if anything - Haney actually paid out to Cohen.
Haney gave Cohen the contract in April, WSJ reports, shortly before his home and offices were raided by federal agents.
A lawyer for Haney said not so.
"Neither Mr. Haney nor Nuclear Development LLC ever entered into a contract with Michael Cohen or his affiliate for lobbying services related to the Bellefonte project," Larry Blust, a lawyer for Haney, told the Journal.
Cohen is under investigation on a few fronts, including whether Trump's ex-lawyer engaged in unregistered lobbying in his efforts to soliciting business deals using his personal relationship to the president, the Journal reports.
A loan application for Haney is still pending at DOE, the Journal reports.
