A team of volunteers was set Wednesday to begin dismantling a massive memorial of loving tributes to the 17 people murdered at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, the SunSentinel is reporting.
The memorial outside the school is made up of teddy bears, balloons and heartfelt mementoes.
The volunteers' mission is to preserve the tributes in climate-controlled rooms so they can be displayed on Feb. 14, 2019 – the one-year anniversary of the deadly shootings, according to the newspaper.
"The initial goal is to get these items out of the weather and sun and into storage, and to do it as quickly as possible," said Parkland Historical Society president Jeff Schwartz.
Meanwhile, two people were arrested at the school on Sunday night and accused of removing items from the memorial, the Miami Herald reporting.
The Broward County Sheriff's Office reported officers found teddy bears, plaques and pin wheels in one of the defendant's cars.
