Melania Trump's Communication Director Stephanie Grisham Violated Hatch Act

The Office of Special Counsel has found that Stephanie Grisham, communications director for first lady Melanie Trump, has violated the Hatch Act.

The act restricts certain political activities of federal executive branch staffers except for the president and vice president.

A letter detailing the special counsel's findings was posted on Twitter by Sen. Tom Carper, D-Del., who had filed a complaint against Grisham. The letter was signed by Erica Hamrick, deputy chief of the Hatch Act Unit.

Grisham had used her official Twitter account to post a message that included "#MAGA" back in July, Hamrick noted. She had attached a photo of a 2015 campaign rally. 

"OSC has found no evidence that she engaged in any additional prohibited political activity via Twitter," Hamrick's letter said. "Thus, although we have concluded that Ms. Grisham violated the Hatch Act, we have decided not to pursue disciplinary action and are closing this file without further action."

Carper, in his tweet welcomed the OSC's findings.

"Two months after my inquiry, the @US_OSC has confirmed that yet another Trump White House staffer has violated the Hatch Act," he wrote. "This administration's blatant and repeated disregard for the law is astounding and unacceptable."

The Washington Examiner noted White House counselor Kellyanne Conway and U.S. Ambassador to the United National Nikki Haley had received similar warnings the in the past.
