Former First Lady Melania Trump announced the death of her "beloved mother" Amalija Knavs on Tuesday night.
Knavs was 78.
Trump, the wife of former President Donald Trump, did not announce a cause of death.
"It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved mother, Amalija," Melania said in a post to X. "Amalija Knavs was a strong woman who always carried herself with grace, warmth, and dignity. She was entirely devoted to her husband, daughters, grandson, and son-in-law. We will miss her beyond measure and continue to honor and love her legacy."
Amalija Knavs and Melania's father, Viktor Knavs, became U.S. citizens in 2018 when Trump was president. They have spent the past few years living at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida.
Donald Trump announced during New Year's Eve celebrations at Mar-a-Lago that Melania Trump was away from the estate to be with her ailing mother at a Miami hospital.
"We just want to wish Amalija that she gets better as quickly as possible," Donald Trump said then.
