More than 50 current and former U.S. mayors who previously backed Mike Bloomberg on Tuesday threw their support behind former Vice President Joe Biden.
"So many of us stood with Mike Bloomberg because of his passionate advocacy around guns and climate and because he's done so much to move our communities forward," Mayor Keith James of West Palm Beach, Florida, said in a statement. "We know Joe Biden is deeply committed to these same goals, and I am excited to help him win Florida."
Added Mayor Victoria Woodards of Tacoma, Washington:
"Joe Biden has stood for working men and women, for healthcare for all Americans, and for climate action for decades. We can't afford another four years of Donald Trump in the White House and I am proud to stand with Joe."
Biden is in a tight race with Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., for the Democratic Party nomination. Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii, is also still an active candidate.
Biden on Monday also found an unexpected supporter in Sterling Heights, Michigan Mayor Michael Taylor, a Republican.
"Since announcing my endorsement of Joe Biden, I have received an outpouring of encouraging messages and believe even more strongly that Joe Biden is the candidate who can defeat Donald Trump in Macomb County and the State of Michigan," Taylor said in a statement to Newsweek.
