Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting survivor David Hogg compared attending his school to being behind bars several weeks after a gunman shot and killed 17 people in a building on the campus.

A senior who was in one of the school's buildings when the shooting occurred on Feb. 14, Hogg has emerged as one of the faces of the gun control movement. He told Axios this week that Stoneman Douglas students are feeling the impact of stepped-up security measures.

The school is "like a prison," Hogg said, but he'd also like to see "a lot more mental health solutions, and taking down the stigma."

The massacre left 14 children and three adults dead. The alleged shooter escaped in the chaos but was captured a short time later by police.

In the weeks since the shooting, it's been reported that local and federal law enforcement missed several signs that indicated the alleged shooter, who reportedly confessed to the crime, was on the verge of committing a violent act.

"I know law enforcement are some of the hardest working individuals in this country," said Hogg, whose father is a retired FBI agent. "We need to realize that there are serious issues not only at the FBI and Broward County Sheriff, but with politicians too who are responsible for government agencies."

During his discussion with Axios, Hogg said he's rather see fewer police at his school and more gun control laws.

In addition to more school resource officers being stationed at the school, Florida Gov. Rick Scott has dispatched Florida Highway Patrol troopers to help keep the school safe.
