As the Broward County, Fla. school board gets set to mark the anniversary of the 17 shooting deaths at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, officials have hired a security chief, the Sun-Sentinel is reporting.
Brian Katz, whose background includes investigating workers who divulged secrets at Google, was hired Tuesday for the $192,500-a-year position. His job will include overseeing emergency preparations, risk management and school security officers, according to the newspaper.
Katz had worked as director of personal protective services at Google until 2017, the Sentinel reported. He most recently had been working as CEO of a company providing business security service for the marijuana industry, the newspaper noted.
A year ago this Thursday, 17 people were gunned down at the Parkland, Florida school and another 17 wounded in shooting spree by a lone gunman.
