A tea party group in Florida is blasting Sen. Marco Rubio for appointing a global warming activist to an advisory task force on climate change.
In a call to
Breitbart News' radio show, a member of the Martin 9/12 Tea Party Committee questioned Rubio's reasons for naming Dade County Clerk Harvey Ruvin to Miami's Climate Change Advisory Task Force.
"We've been fighting global warming [initiative]… for close to 20 years," the caller identified only as Cindy said on the show, complaining about local and national agreements that,
according to Breitbart News, are "driving the globalist climate agenda.
"They've done this all under the table," she said of the politicians, adding they believe opposition "is a conspiracy theory. It's not."
"We tried to ask [Rubio] why did he" appoint Ruvin – but have still gotten no answer.
The
Miami climate change task force, which Ruvin chairs, advises on greenhouse gas reduction and recommends "measures to address making the County more resilient to expected climate impacts on the built environment, natural systems, economy, social and health concerns."
Breitbart News reports Ruvin's environmentalism advocacy has included stints as a member of President Bill Clinton's Sustainable Communities Task Force of the President's Council on Sustainable Development, and as delegate to the United Nations World Congress for a Sustainable Future.
The conservative news site also notes Rubio, as a state House leader, aligned with Ruvin on a cap-and-trade plan that he later criticized, citing a
Tampa Bay Times story on the flip-flop.
The Martin 9/12 Tea Party Committee didn't support Rubio when he ran for the U.S. Senate; Rubio was one of only a small number of candidates who didn't meet with the conservative group during that campaign, Breitbart News reports.
