President Donald Trump’s trips to his Florida resort have cost taxpayers more than Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation, The Washington Post reports.
The Associated Press reported on Friday that financial data released by the Justice Department on Thursday shows that the Mueller investigation has cost about $16.7 million, though the department did say that about $9 million would have been spent whether a special counsel had been appointed or not.
Trump lashed out at the investigation after the report, exaggerating the cost of the investigation to $17 million.
The Post notes that $17 million is the cost, according to an estimate from the conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch, of the 17 trips to Mar-a-Lago Trump has taken while in office.
Judicial Watch, refuting a report from AP that estimated the cost of Trump’s trips at $3 million each, estimates each trip as costing $1 million based on flight time and the typical cost for the Secret Service, but not including the airlifting of vehicles like the presidential limousines.
