Malacca Strait: Life Raft Found by Fisherman a Clue to Flight MH370?

Malaysian fishermen reportedly found a badly damaged life raft in the Malacca Strait, raising hope for new information in the search for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

The fishermen tied the raft to their boat and notified the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, but the raft sank when officials tried to recover it, according to the New Straits Times.

The raft reportedly had the word “Boarding” on it and was found Tuesday 10 nautical miles from the coastal town of Port Dickson by fisherman Azman Mohamad, the newspaper reported.

"We managed to tie it to our boat as we feared it would sink due to the damages," Mohamad told the Times.

Officials are attempting to recover the sunken raft. Previous reports of debris have been determined unrelated to flight MH370.

The flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing vanished on Saturday. There were 239 people on board.

The multinational search turned toward the Strait of Malacca after military officials said they believe the Boeing 777 flew for an hour and changed course after air traffic controllers lost sight of it.
