Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright said Thursday that she was “stunned” at the news that President Donald Trump publicly criticized the country’s top intelligence officials as “naïve” for disagreeing with him.
Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats testified along several other intelligence chiefs before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday. Coats said that Iran is not conducting “key activities” involved in building a nuclear weapon.
"The Intelligence people seem to be extremely passive and naive when it comes to the dangers of Iran. They are wrong!" Trump tweeted on Wednesday.
"I was fascinated by what happened with the lineup of all [the officials] and talking about what they know from the fact that they're doing a lot of research, that they understand it," Albright said in an interview on CNN’s “New Day” Thursday morning.
"And I worked for presidents that actually were interested in knowing what was going on and knew what the role of the intelligence community is and was. And so I am stunned by this," said Albright, who served under former President Bill Clinton.
"And I think it only proves something that troubles me deeply, is that this President is someone that doesn't want to learn."
"They are testing Rockets (last week) and more, and are coming very close to the edge,” Trump said in a follow-up tweet. “There economy is now crashing, which is the only thing holding them back. Be careful of Iran. Perhaps Intelligence should go back to school!"
