Sen. Al Franken is taking fire from within his own ranks as liberal groups and progressives pounced when reports of a second accuser surfaced Monday, Politico reported.

An accusation last week from a former Playboy cover model before Franken was a senator was damaging enough, but new accuser Lindsay Menz's allegation that Franken groped her when he was a senator has brought the claws out from liberals.

Credo Action also called for the Democratic senator's "immediate resignation."

From inside the chamber, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand on Monday said an ethics probe into Franken's actions needs to "happen immediately," eschewing a demand that Franken resign.

Franken, who called for an ethics probe into his own actions, apologized to Leeann Tweeden last week for his actions on a 2006 USO Tour, and acknowledged Menz's allegation.

"I take thousands of photos at the state fair surrounded by hundreds of people, and I certainly don't remember taking this picture," Franken told CNN. "I feel badly that Ms. Menz came away from our interaction feeling disrespected."

Franken, at least thus far, has resisted calls for his resignation.
