Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren may step up and seek the Democratic nomination for president after all if front-runner Hillary Clinton ends up in legal trouble, says best-selling author and journalist Ed Klein.
Appearing Sunday on
"The Cats Roundtable" on AM 970 in New York, Klein said that based on his most recent reporting, the FBI is investigating whether Clinton and her two top aides "violated a law by giving false statements to the FBI."
The action is a felony, subject to five years in prison, Klein told host John Catsimatidis. Klein said in an
appearance last week on
Newsmax TV's "Newsmax Prime" show that the case is likely to also be a political issue for Barack Obama's last year in the White House.
Klein said his sources say that if Clinton is indicted or falters, "Elizabeth Warren might seriously ... consider coming and trying to save the party."
As for the GOP race, Klein said, the Cleveland convention will be the first time in modern memory be an open convention where no candidate has a majority of the votes going in.
