Report: Jill Kelley May Have Honorary Consul Status Revoked

By    |   Wednesday, 14 November 2012 04:17 PM EST

Jill Kelley — the raven-haired beauty embroiled in the David Petraeus sex scandal — may soon have her status as an honorary consul to South Korea revoked.

The Guardian newspaper of Britain reports the South Korean foreign ministry’s review of Kelley’s honorarium comes on the heels of her suggestion that she may be entitled to diplomatic protection.

Kelley, 37, a high-profile Florida socialite, has been an honorary consul to the sovereign state of 50 million, located between China and Japan, since August. She is one of ten such South Korea honorary consuls in the United States.

Kelley triggered the investigation that bared Petraeus’s affair with his biographer Paula Broadwell when she complained about anonymous threatening emails being sent to her.

The Guardian said the South Korean government is “unhappy to find itself involved in unwanted publicity in relation to the sex scandal’’ swirling around Petraeus.

It is also distraught over a 911 call Kelley reportedly made to Tampa police last Sunday in which she complained about the onslaught of media around her home.

"You know, I don't know if by any chance, because I'm an honorary consul general, so I have inviolability, so they should not be able to cross my property,’’ Kelley said, according to the newspaper.

“I don't know if you want to get diplomatic protection involved as well.’’
Unlike other foreign dignitaries, honorary consuls are not eligible to claim diplomatic immunity.

“We are now following up what is going on and what might happen in the future. Nothing is decided yet,’’ an official at the South Korean Embassy in Washington DC, told the Guardian.
