Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is one of the "most vicious, nasty people in politics," Republican strategist Karl Rove said Thursday while panning her for comments she posted comments on Instagram referring to millennials as a more "informed dynamic" than their predecessors.
"You know, we have to put up with her," Rove, the former deputy chief of staff for President George W. Bush, told Fox Business' "Mornings with Maria." "I just wish we didn't send as much attention to her."
In her post, shown on Fox News, the freshman New York Democrat said she thinks young people are "profoundly courageous because they’re willing to puncture more taboos and have conversations that, frankly, older generations sometimes struggle to have," and are "very profound and very strong and very brave, because they’re actually willing to go to the streets."
She said her generation also takes time to "read and understand' the history of "the labor movement, history of civil rights, history of racial struggles" and more.
"They are willing to go to the streets," Rove said, ridiculing her comments. "They are so brave. They are so going to the streets today. Well, first of all, what about the people who went on the streets, on the Independence Bridge the in civil rights era? They got beaten up by racist southern cops."
Millennials can rally on the National Mall, Rove said, but "they're better than everybody else? How about 16 and 17-year-olds, about members of the Greatest Generation who literally saved Western civilization, taking up arms as teenagers, fighting in World War II?"
He also lamented the "self-centeredness and the conceit" of Ocasio-Cortez, who knows "a lot of other left-wingers" who think they're the greatest generation "America has ever seen."
Rove further complained about Ocasio-Cortez tweeting, at around the same time of her Instagram post, that the "GOP is working to end democracy."
"Accuse your opponents of wanting to destroy America?" Rove said. "Really good."
