Journalists Concerned for Safety After Trump Rally Rant

ABC's "Good Morning America"

President Donald Trump's attack on the news media is "incitement," said one ABC reporter, and journalists are concerned about potentially violent reactions from the public, according to a report in The Daily Caller.

"It really feels like a matter of time before someone gets hurt," ABC's Cecilia Vega said on "Good Morning America" on Wednesday.

Trump during his speech in Phoenix on Tuesday night slammed the "fake news" media and defended his comments on the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia. He also made personal attacks, describing The Washington Post as a "lobbying tool for Amazon," and calling ABC's George Stephanopoulos "little George."

"For the most part, honestly, these are really, really dishonest people," Trump said before re-reading his earlier statements about the Charlottesville incidents. "They are bad people.

"I really think they don't like our country. I really believe that," he added. "I don't believe they are going to change and that's why I do this. The only people giving a platform to these hate groups is the media itself and the fake news."

Axios CEO Jim VandeHei on Twitter called the president's comments on reporters, "despicable, extremely deceptive [and] dangerous."

"There are great Americans deeply concerned about a changing nation," he added. "God forbid, one buys Trump's mad rant and takes action . . ."

The Society of Professional Journalists said in a statement "journalists love the USA. We go to work each day to inform people about OUR country."

"They believe it when Trump lies about the cameras being turned off," CNN's Sara Murray wrote on Twitter. "They harass reporters and photographers. Trump knows what he's saying is false. People close to him know it puts journalists at risk just for doing their jobs. He does it anyway."
