Rep. John Ratcliffe said Thursday that even though he's a Republican on the Democrat-led House Judiciary Committee, he agrees with Chairman Jerry Nadler's call to bring special counsel Robert Mueller in to answer questions.
"I know I'm in the minority here, but I hope so," the Texas lawmaker told Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "I don't think Bob Mueller should be allowed to literally take the money and run. I don't think he should be able to hold a press conference, make some veiled comments, and then walk away without answering questions."
On Wednesday, Mueller offered a public statement on the results of his team's investigation into Russia and President Donald Trump, making comments that have called the probe into question and refusing to answer questions after his presentation.
He also said he doesn't know why Mueller took the actions he did.
"Maybe the president is right," said Ratcliffe. "Maybe he was upset he got passed over for FBI director by President (Donald) Trump. I don't know."
Ratcliffe said that what he does know is Mueller did "what prosecutors are not supposed to do" and repeated the mistakes that former FBI Director James Comey made.
"I find that disappointing and regretful, but I have questions for Bob Mueller that he needs to answer," said Ratcliffe.
However, he said, Mueller with his comments "put a stake in the heart of the collusion conspiracy narrative" with his comments about having insufficient evidence to charge Trump with a crime.
"There is either evidence sufficient to charge a crime or there isn't," said Ratcliffe. "You can't be a little bit pregnant."
