West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, who won re-election in November, is now considering running for governor in 2020, Politico is reporting.
Manchin, a Democrat, admitted he is “thinking about” entering the race against GOP Gov. Jim Justice.
“I think about it every minute of every day,” he said. “Now, thinking about it and doing it are two different things. I’ll make a decision this fall sometime. I don’t think there’s any hurry at all.”
Manchin had served as West Virginia governor from 2005-2010. He called it the “best job in the world.”
Saying “Washington sucks,” Manchin conceded he has gained clout during his time in the Senate. However, he noted a campaign for governor won’t be more difficult than his successful bid the Senate last year.
“Campaigns (are) the best part of politics,” he said. “Can’t be any tougher than what I came through, n off-year election when they concentrated all their money against you.”
