Hillary Clinton's campaign has been understanding about Vice President Joe Biden needing to take his time to decide whether to jump into the presidential race as he mourns the death of his son, Beau. But now staffers are starting to push him for a decision.

"It's time he make that decision," John Podesta, Clinton's campaign chairman, said during an appearance Wednesday on MSNBC's "Andrea Mitchell Reports."

"This debate has been joined," he said. "We're talking about different ideas about how to take the country forward, how to improve and build upon what President Obama has achieved. And if Vice President Biden wants to enter and compete for the presidency, then it is time he make that decision."

Podesta said the campaign has been respectful of Biden during his time of mourning, but it is time for him now to make up his mind.

"I think the time has come for a decision so that at the next debate, if he does decide to get in, there will be six podiums on the stage," Podesta said.

Podesta made a similar comment to Yahoo News just after Tuesday night's Democratic debate.

Biden has said he might wait until next week when Clinton is scheduled to testify before the Benghazi select committee.
