X Erupts After Biden Responds to Elmo

By    |   Wednesday, 31 January 2024 08:36 PM EST

A social-media firestorm erupted Tuesday after the X account of President Joe Biden replied to a post from Sesame Street character Elmo, asking how people were doing.

"I know how hard it is some days to sweep the clouds away and get to sunnier days," read a post on Biden's X account. "Our friend Elmo is right: We have to be there for each other, offer our help to a neighbor in need, and above all else, ask for help when we need it. Even though it's hard, you're never alone."

X comments swelled under Biden's reply to Elmo. One account, the Wise Squirrel, posted a video of Elmo getting a COVID-19 vaccine.

"Yes, it's true, the Deep State used Elmo to push an untested vaccine on children," the post read.

The Libertarian Party of Tennessee posted: "You're just like Elmo. A puppet."

"Why are you lying about the border," X account First Words wrote. "You can make it much more secure by just reinstating Trump's policies that you took away. You won't do it because you want them pouring in and anyone with a brain knows it."

"What Joe Biden really needs to do," X account Paul A. Szypula wrote, "is stop talking to Sesame Street characters and close the US border. Our country needs to take care of itself first, otherwise we'll never be able to help our neighbor. Biden is letting the United States be destroyed. This isn't make believe."

In August, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was mocked on X for mixing up tweets from her own account with that of Biden's.

"Investing in America means investing in ALL of America," Jean-Pierre wrote from her own account on X in a now-deleted post. "When I ran for President, I made a promise that I would leave no part of the country behind."
