Former Vice President Joe Biden's 2020 campaign blasted President Donald Trump for taking the side of "murderous dictator" Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea.
Biden's presidential campaign issued a statement in response to Trump's comment over the weekend regarding Kim's purported characterization of Biden as "Swampman Joe Biden a low IQ individual, & worse."
"The President's comments are beneath the dignity of the office," the Biden campaign said, Axios reported. "To be on foreign soil, on Memorial Day, and to side repeatedly with a murderous dictator against a fellow American and former Vice President speaks for itself. And it's part of a pattern of embracing autocrats at the expense of our institutions - whether taking Putin's word at face value in Helsinki or exchanging 'love letters' with Kim Jung Un."
Trump's remark came during a visit to Tokyo. He was asked about North Korea's recent missile tests and said he was not concerned about them.
The Trump administration and the Kim regime are trying to work together to denuclearize the Korean peninsula. A summit in February ended early when Trump and the U.S. delegation walked away from the negotiating table.
