Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-Okla., says President Donald Trump's tweets make him "cringe a little."

"I have to admit — confession's good for the soul — every time I hear that a tweet is coming out, I cringe a little," Sen. Inhofe said.

The Armed Services Committee chairman made his remarks Thursday in an address to the National Defense University. His comments were detailed in a report posted by The Hill.

"But wouldn't it be kind of nice if [Trump] had someone to bounce those off, changing the wording maybe a little bit?" he said. "But how else can he circumvent a media that hates him?"

The Washington Examiner said Inhofe, in his address, called for tens of billions of dollars more in defense spending. He said Congress should eliminate the Budget Control Act caps on the defense budget and look at boosting funding by as much as 5 percent over inflation for years to come.
