An upcoming September "Day of Jewish Unity" hopes its message of peace and stability around the world will also help make a difference in this year's volatile U.S. presidential election.
The Sept. 27 event is asking 1 million Jews from around the world to pray "on behalf of the current . . . state of affairs, both nationally and internationally," according to a statement from Acheinu, the organization that's sponsoring the effort.
"2016 marks an alarming year in which the daunting cloud of uncertainty is prevalent more than ever," the statement read. "From a turbulent presidential race to widespread terrorism affecting countries across the globe, there is much cause for concern regarding the safety of the Jewish people and our homeland."
In promoting the event, the group also released a vimeo Monday – titled "A look at the current political state of affairs . . ." – that includes clips of remarks by Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump and Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson that have roiled the U.S. political debate.
Though asking Jewish people to pray Sept.. 27, a spokesperson told Newsmax.com, "I think this is something that can be applied to other groups."
"It's praying for a change in the political climate," the spokesperson said. "We can change the climate when we speak, not speak negatively about each other, not gossip about each other.
"We hope the message will change the climate."
Over 500,000 Jews participated in the event last year, according to the group.
